Football Federation Australia

  • FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Bid – acting as General Counsel in relation to all aspects of FFA’s bid to host the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, including preparing and negotiating services agreements, managing procurement processes, establishing a Bid Steering Committee, submitting trade mark applications and liaising with Commonwealth and State & Territory Governments on Government Guarantees and other bid requirements. 

 

  • Legal Counsel Services – providing short term in-house legal counsel support (3 months) on a range of business-as-usual workstreams, including A-League, Socceroos and Matildas sponsorship, venue hire, services, government funding, media, intellectual property and match sanctioning arrangements.

 

  • Sale of Newcastle Jets – leading FFA’s negotiations on its sale of the Newcastle Jets A-League club to a Chinese conglomerate (Ledman Group), including drafting and negotiating the Share Sale Agreement, the Club Participation Agreement and associated completion agreements and documents, and managing an extensive due diligence process.  

 

  • Austrade - leading an FFA-Austrade Middle East trade mission to deliver an AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 transfer of knowledge program to the UAE FA, the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, showcasing Australian suppliers and providing best practice insights into the staging of the event.
     

  • A-League Spectator Banning Process – advising on the establishment of the A-League’s Spectator Banning Process, including by undertaking a benchmarking exercise in relation to the approaches taken by other Australian sports and events.  

 

  • AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 – acting as General Counsel & Company Secretary for the local organising committee, with responsibility for managing all legal and governance matters relevant to the organisation of the event, including advising on a range of sponsorship, broadcast, ticketing, services, venue hire, government funding, intellectual property, rights protection (including major event legislation), privacy, integrity and governance matters and preparing and negotiating ambassador agreements for high profile players, including Tim Cahill, Lucas Neill and Alessandro Del Piero.
